KMCS is awarding shareware and freeware developers whose software meets stringent criteria and which we find extremely useful ourselves.  Software products are generally found on the Internet and awarded after we use them for a while.  Awarded products get displayed in this area of the KMCS web site, and you get a small graphic to show off on your site!

To qualify for a KMCS Cool Software award, a product must meet the following criteria:
  • It must NOT add unnecessary entries to the registry
  • Have an uninstaller which COMPLETELY removes the application and registry entries
  • It must not cause our test systems to crash
  • It must not be "bloated"
  • Software must be completely legal by law in the USA
  • Software must have useful documentation
  • Software must not be an Alpha or Beta, it must be at least v1.0.
  • If shareware, must be reasonably priced
  • If labeled "freeware" must be true freeware, no hidden costs or crippling
  • Must run at a reasonable and useful speed on our 366MHz Test System
  • Company must provide responsive customer support
  • Internet Apps must be FireFox and/or Opera compatible
  • Software can not be spyware, i.e. NO phoning home or advertiser spyware
  • And finally, the software can not be a replica of one of our own products
